Saw the movie "Buried" tonight.....very late night showing at Lincoln Square Cinema.
Awesome concept for a movie...Wow, don't go see it if you're claustrophobic! (I am kinda claustrophobic...hmm...I couldn't resist!)
Join me as I try to create a name for myself in New York City as a recording and performing artist, navigating through part-time jobs, gigs, meetings, self-improvement, dance & vocal training, and more. I guess this is the life of an artist. I signed up for this, right?

Tonight I met with a songwriter named Ron Gerald and did some recording at his place.
Song was called "Constantly."
He lives in Jamaica, Queens. Kind of a trek on the subway, but it was fun.
I love meeting with new people, and I love recording. Every time.
Even if it's a small hot room, and I'm sweating. LOL

Wandering Gypsy
Another long, full day today.....
Babies and music,
followed by rehearsal for "Faraway Bayou."
We are having rehearsals in the apartment of the woman who wrote the music.
She has such a lovely apartment down on Bank Street.
Then I worked in the studio today with my dear friend Brooke Forman.
We were recording a song called Wandering Gypsy that we wrote together.
I love working with her, because I see so much potential,
and I get excited to pull out her best!
Met and worked with awesome engineer Phil Fabrizio.
I really enjoyed helping to produce this song....
Just got off the phone with this fellow Jerome, who I've been chatting with for awhile
about personal management.
Good conversation....
And it continues....

Loooooong day
Wow, what a long day...
After work, I did a coaching with the lovely Kalynn Dodge.
Half price tapas and great conversation with these lovely ladies, who are amazing singers and artists themselves.
Had a great meeting with Rich Overton, someone I would love to work with,
hopefully we can get started sooner than later. He does PR campaigns for artists, specializing in the LGBT community.
Then rehearsal with Story Pirates,
followed by another rehearsal,
with The Bloodsugars (for a gig at Bellhouse on Thursday)
Wow, looooong day but full of great things.
Now for sleep....

Bedspread Monday
My parents spent the night last night on a new air mattress that I now have in my apartment.
And they met with my manager to go over some things today.
I went to work and then to rehearsal for a staged reading of a musical that I am singing in - "Faraway Bayou." The music is pretty good! I love just going in there and sightreading new material.
Then I played a kids party at Eli's Vinegar Factory. Cool place on the Upper East Side.

Tonight I took my friend's modern dance class. What made it even better is that it was free!
Woo-hoo!

Jennifer Hirsh & jazz
I had a great weekend in Pennsylvania with extended family, welcoming the addition of my cousin Emily's little girl Lili....they had a baby dedication for her.
This weekend I also saw a good friend Faith Ruark (we went to school in Harrisonburg and she now lives in Lancaster, PA), and I saw the movie The Devil.
My parents came back with me to the city tonight. They are meeting tomorrow with my manager Janet to go over a few things.
Tonight we went and saw Jennifer Hirsh at Living Room. She is so wonderful, and the new songs and full band sounded amazing!
Afterwards we went to Caffe Vivaldi to see Evgeny Lebedev, who has played keyboard on a few of my shows. He was playing with his trio and they sounded incredible.
I love live music!

Computer fixed!!
After much time and money spent, my computer has returned from the Apple store and is fixed!!
However, I lost my data!! AAGGGH, though much of my videos, music and photos were on my external hard drive, (and a lot of things are saved in my gmail)....
It's good to be back on this blog though. Since returning to New York after time at home, I hit the ground running, preparing for a VIDEO of "Suitcases" directed by Art Institute film student Joey Keenan. I think it will turn out great - got some awesome shots, and I was joined by the wonderful Joe Buffa who danced and helped with choreography.
I also had another great show at Bitter End last night - this one was a trio show with me on piano, Jordan on upright bass, and Josh Giunta on drums. I was also joined by Jessica Ferguson (an artist J-Harris is working with), who sang "If I Ain't Got You" and my friend from Boston Conservatory Trish LaRose, who sang a "Groove is in the Heart / Hey Mr. DJ" medley with me.
Show was so fun! Click here for a link to the blog where my girl Mindee Anoff posted some pictures and video.
Good to be back!
