Boston!

Woke up this morning on VERY little sleep,
to catch a bus to Boston.
I was running late, big surprise, and took a cab, realizing I was not going to make the bus, but hey, when I got there, I found out I was in luck and the bus was running almost an hour late.

Slept on the whole bus ride....zzzzzzz........
Jeremy picked me up at South Station, we picked up the keyboard I was borrowing, and went back to Roxbury to freshen up.
Saw my newborn nephew who was sleeping, and my 3 year old nephew Gus, who is as talkative as ever, and such a funny little bundle of joy.

I found out the guy who was going to play percussion on my Boston gig was stuck on a bus back from New York, and maybe wouldn't make it, so I was flying solo for the gig.

GIG was AWESOME!

I played at the new b. good across from Berklee College of Music, my alma mater.
They had a cute room upstairs with couches, and a little stage with an amp and mic.
I ended up having a good amount of people come out to the show...some old friends, and a bunch of my brother's friends from work. I played new & old songs and I was offering the new + old album in a combo pack for $12, and a bunch of people bought CD's. I videotaped the show, and just generally had a good time. So glad I did it!

After the show, I got to spend some good quality time with my friend
Stephen Buslovich. We were thick as thieves when I lived in Boston,
and I've missed him greatly.

Album is here!!!

Forgot to write in my blog yesterday......what was I thinking??

CD's have arrived!!!!

I have about 1,080 CD's in my apartment in boxes.....That's right, "Suitcases" has landed!

Today I did a show with "The Story Pirates" at the Drama Bookshop in midtown, including some songs such as "I Like to go alot to school" and "Killer Pineapples of Hawaii." HAHA.

Then I did a gig with "The Bloodsugars" in West Babylon (Long Island) at Looney Tunes record store, for Record Store Day. It was an acoustic set. There were a bunch of high school kids really into it which was cute.

I went to my friend's play tonight in Queens, "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom," a Charles Busch play. So funny!! I was "tee-hee"-ing a whole lot! Afterwards, we went to the diner and I got down with some pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Yeeeee-ah!!!!

They are sleeping
I am listening to my MASTER CD for the umpteenth time
Hope it can finally go into production tomorrow

Had a Crumbs cupcake and lovely walk with Cara Scherker, my beautiful friend and background singer who is leaving for 5 months on a cruise. Boo, I will miss her, but I think it will be a great experience for her.

Had some dope salad and pasta with parents at Patsy's in Chelsea,
then went to the Clearview theater to see
"Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
and it was a reallly good movie!

Parkway

Listening to one of my favorite songs, "Parkway" by Gaelle.

I love her album, "Transient." It is so amazing.

I had a great day today at work, singing for babies, at the park with my friend and the cute little boy she nannies, getting some things done at home, and having a great Bikram class.

Now it's time to eat noodles and watch "American Idol" and then hit the sack!!

Important note.....Please Click Here and listen to the first 7 songs on my MySpace player and let me know what are your top 3 picks! I need to pick 3 songs to promote on Internet radio and such....I need your input, so let me know!

Nap times

So I am a night owl. We probably know this...

I was so tired at work today, when I got home I napped. Then I got up to try to skype with my brother and nephews. Their internet wasn't working the best, but I did get to see my new baby nephew who was so precious.

Then I napped some moooooore....

However, after work, before my nap, I DID take the master to the printing house. Cross your fingers that the master works out, and they can duplicate and print this sucka!!

Going a little crazy here at my computer desk getting things done, emails written....

Listened to the master, and it sounds pretty good....I think it's ready to go to the printing house tomorrow, thank goodness!!

Today I got to see my friend Anton Briones (who is designing my website) in the play Limonade Tous Les Jours by Charles Mee. Great acting & great play. I love Charles Mee, who also wrote the play "Big Love," which remains one of the best shows I've seen.

The Moon and the Sky

I love this song by Sade:

Trying to finish up master, ALMOST ready to take into printing...AAAGGH...

Had a long morning/afternoon of kid's music classes. Found myself very up and down again today, getting caught in negative thinking, comparing myself to other artists, etc.

However, I was able to take a walk in the park for a little bit, and it was a BEAUTIFUL day. Also made a bunch of calls to people who were able to give me some great insight, and make me feel better, including my dad. I talk on the phone alot with my mom, but it was so good to talk to my dad. He is so supportive and encouraging. I love both my parents so much. (Mom, I know you read this, haha...you may be one of the only readers. LOL)

I also had a good workout at Bally's, including going in the pool for a little bit and swimming some laps. So refreshing! I really needed it. I'll have to swim more often.

I had a rehearsal with the Bloodsugars tonight at Funkadelic, and it went well....even though in the first hour, we blew a fuse AND broke a lightbulb....hahahahahaa...I love playing with those guys so much: Brendan, Kenneth, and Jason. They are good people.

Tomorrow's another day. I hope I can stay strong, and never stop growing.

Get Me Outta Here

I'm posting this Esmee Denters song "Get Me Outta Here" at the end of this blog entry. I've been diggin this song for a minute, though the video's a little lame. I love the hook and the feel of the song, and it's so dang catchy.

Here's a pic of my new design:

I had a Story Pirates rehearsal today...always a good time.

Still trying to book the dang date for the CD release party.

Ran into a little problem with the volume on some of the tracks on the master, so printing is being delayed a little bit....

STAY TUNED.....

CD is almost here!!

I dropped off the final master CD at Play-It Productions today, so the printing is in progress! It will be in my apartment in about 2 weeks! YES!!!!!!!!!

Went to therapy today, and at the beginning of the session, I started to feel really grateful. I love my therapist, and it just felt really good to be there today.

This weather is AMAAAAAZING!!!! It's getting so warm here in NY!

Took a great tap class today with Germaine Salsberg, and then hip-hop with my boy Lajon! It was a really fun combo, and he pulled me out at the end with a couple other people, which always makes me feel good.

That's all for today. Still trying to book my CD release show and/or another show before or after, and figure out management. I hope it all comes together

SUITCASES

Been listening to the masters for my new album, "Suitcases," and checking the CD for errors before it gets duplicated.

The whole process was pretty up & down, but I'm liking the way the album sounds!

Took a great bikram class earlier today at Yoga to the People. Love that place! Only $8 dollars per class, and great teachers!

Did a show in Brooklyn with Story Pirates, and spent a little time with Heather Robb of The Spring Standards, an AWESOME indie/folk band. I had the fortune of seeing them at "Joe's Pub" a couple months ago.

Watching American Idol now. So far my favorite guy is Alex Lambert. He has such a cool voice...This week he sang "Everybody Knows" by John Legend.

I am a blogger?!?!

I am starting a new blog!! And so excited about it.

I wanted to be able to bring others into my crazy, exciting life in NYC.

In addition to my part-time jobs (gigging with bands, working at a kids music company. etc) I have been moving forward with my career as an artist/songwriter/performer. My new full-length CD is ALMOST ready. We are tweaking the design, and then it will be sent off for printing. I have also been performing monthly at Pianos down in the lower east side.

This past Friday, I met up with an old friend and classmate from The American Boychoir School, Anton Briones. We met at Aroma Espresso Bar, which by the way is amazing. It's the Israeli version of Starbucks apparently. I had an awesome egg sandwich, that came with cream cheese, pickles, and tomato. Delicious. Anyways, he is going to be designing my website. Finally, adamshenk.com is happening, and will no longer just redirect to my myspace! He is really great at what he does, and I can't wait for the final product!

Over the weekend, I also met with 2 producers/engineers. The first is Ric Schnupp, who I met awhile back in Boston. He now works out of a high-end recording studio in Manhattan. He gave me a tour, and I'm telling you, these studios were sick! Everything you could dream of. I wet my pants, twice. Plush couches, dim lighting, awesome vibe. A recording studio you would want to call home.

The second producer was Richard Dickson, a.k.a. Rich Kidd, a.k.a. The Analog Kidd. His place was way up in the Bronx, but I'm glad I went. He had a home studio, and his material was great. We started writing to one of his tracks, that he called Ghetto Supersonic. It was a sick beat, and I'm glad we got to start working together right away.

I also played keys for my friend's band, Shoots & Latters at North 4th Bar in Williamsburg on Saturday.

It was a great long weekend, and I look forward to getting more stuff done on my endless to-do list as the week progresses.
