Real World

Was giddy today because of the impending placement on Real World: Las Vegas.

I set my DVR to record it, and watched it late at night.

Sure enough, as my friends and family already told me, my song "Warning Shot" played right at the very end of the episode before the end credits.

Was a great placement with a little bit of the track upfront (Nick Morin production) and then the lyrics "Tell  me what the hell's going on? / Some kind of voo-doo," and then the beginning and ending of the chorus: "Could you fire a warning shot before you blow me away / When the trigger is cocked / Give me a warning shot"

Very exciting -

I got a bunch of people commenting on my old YouTube video of Warning Shot - so exciting that people were seeking it out after the episode - I also searched Twitter and discovered that people were quoting the lyrics!!

Got a lot of congrats and well wishes from friends - this is pretty big for me, and I hope for more placements in the future -

Very Grateful :-)

Soul Summit

Went to Soul Summit in Ft Greene Park in the afternoon to meet up with Al and a couple of his friends.

DJ was spinning house/tribal music and lots of folks were just dancing....It was awesome....good people watching times....

Awesome summer thing to do....

Here is a video that I'm kind of obsessed with. Been seeing a lot of videos from Berklee students who are who are recording in the practice rooms....Reminds me of long nights writing and singing my heart out in the practice rooms there....I LOVE this video:

Don't read this

Don't read this because it's way past my bedtime.

Today after work I went to an info session at Dixon Place to talk about teaching artist opportunities. So many great people in the room -- artists who spend time teaching and working with kids, seniors, disabled, etc.

Had a lovely date in Brooklyn at this awesome soul food restaurant called Night of the Cookers. Had some awesome lemon chicken & greens.

Good conversation, walk around the block, through the park, after dark....Reminds me of my favorite Jill Scott song. Name that tune.

Looking forward to my show tonight at Googie's with Adam Tressler & Rebecca Muir.

Over & out

(Go watch GLOZELL) on YouTube, she's a comedian who posts hundreds of videos, and always ends with over & out, a wink and a kiss. LOL....

I love my crazy hair

LONG and productive day.

Kids music classes.

Lunch meeting with Ayhan (producer of album "Suitcases") & Janet (management/marketing) at Republic, a delicious Vietnamese restaurant in Union Square.

Awesome Bikram yoga class.

Printed out flyers for some upcoming gigs:

Went and got my hair touched up since I have a show at Googie's on Thursday and then this weekend at Out in the Adirondacks:

I like the beard design though it's kind of impossible to maintain. I may shave it off this weekend.

Put up a quick update/Red Light Special a cappella video on my YouTube.

Over & out!

Leave Right Now

Listening to Will Young's "Leave Right Now" on loop....You may know this as the exit song on American idol, haha....I really love it.

I'm getting super pumped for my release party on Tuesday. Woohoo!!

Today I had kids music classes, then I picked up a new pedal for my keyboard at First Flight Music, then I met with this girl Breanna at my apartment to go over some music with her. I'm trying to pick up extra work coaching/accompanying people.

So yeeeeea that was my day.....

Over and out!

P.S. I'm a little obsessed with Glozell on YouTube. She has almost 900 videos I think. She makes them daily obviously....She's really funny! Click here for her YouTube page

My Dear Disco

Played a show tonight at Matchless in Brooklyn with "The Bloodsugars." Cool joint off the Nassau stop on the G train. I took the G train! LOL, I think it was my first or second time. Not so bad.

I went to a diner to have some food before the gig. I had the classic diner waitress, which I love. Very attentive, moves you right along, friendly, down-to-earth, smoker's voice (Hey, she might've not even been a smoker, but she had the voice, no offense on that, I like it)

We had a good set, though I lost track of my phone, and was freaking out a little bit, and finally found it later in the keyboard case, with the help of Jason's wife, who claimed she was very good at finding things. Indeed she was.

After our set was the band "My Dear Disco." Check out their Myspace and website. They were awesome. The lead singer (a girl) had a great voice, and the band was very synthy, and 80's influenced. They did an amazing cover of "All I Do" by Stevie Wonder. Pure bliss! I love that song.

And now, for shits and giggles,
a phenomenal cover of "Tik Tok" by Doll & The Kicks
This has been in my head alot today

Enjoy!

Charlie bit me!

Had a gig tonight with "The Bloodsugars" in New Jersey, at the College of New Jersey!

It was a cool gig...also performing was "Project Jenny Project Jan." They were awesome. 2-man group, DJ + singer with videos that are synced up with the music.

On the way back, we were listening to this in the car. "Charlie Bit Me," the auto-tuned version. I love it!!!

Cake Shop

Aaaah I'm up too late AGAIN!

I found this on YouTube. It was posted by Heightz, the rapper who featured in my song "Saturday" and performed with me at my last Pianos show. In this video, you can kinda get a sense of my live show. This last one (on February 6) was so much fun. It was a great turnout and really great energy from the crowd!

Today was great. After work, my friend Demond came over. I helped him with some music,
and then we jammed. Check out this video of us singing "Ordinary People."

He helped me take my big old Yamaha Mo-8 to a cab, and I took it down to First Flight Music Store. Then I played tonight with Bloodsugars at Cakeshop. We had a great set! Man, I love getting lost in their music. Jason does such a great job. And big shout outs to Kenneth
Salters on drums, and Brendan O'Grady on bass.

Shout out to Caitlin Devlin, an old Berklee friend who I saw tonight! She was at Cakeshop to see "Savoir Adore," and I'm so glad she caught our set and we got to catch up!

Now I'm watching American Idol once again, and sending out invitations to my next show. It's a modern dance/music collabo with my friend Todd Henry. I'll be dancing a bit and then
singing 5 songs with a small band. Drums, acoustic guitar, me on keys, and flute/sax for this one. I'm excited. CLICK HERE for more info on this event.

I'm out!

Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart

The journey continues:

-Still trying to book the date for the release party of my CD
-Still looking for management, though I've been in contact with a couple possible canditates
-Trying not to get too worked up about things that are OUT OF MY CONTROL

On a break from my job (playing & singing for babies) I got together with my two current background singers Nick Boddington & Cara Scherker and we recorded a few songs for YouTube.

Click here to see the first of the video series, a cover of "Co Star" by DAY26.

It was snowing like crazy here in NY!

After work I went and took two dance classes at Broadway Dance Center. The first was Ray Hesselink's theater tap class. He is a great teacher and I always have so much fun in his class tapping away. The second was Jermaine Brown's hip-hop/street jazz class. I've only taken his class maybe 3-4 times, but he is another GREAT teacher...really emphasizes the performance aspect...We did a great combo to Alicia Keys' "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart." I was really feelin it!!
